Yay Sports

My personal sports “career” highlight was playing for the St.Vital Victorias AA hockey team for 3 years; 1 as a forward and 2 as a goalie. I think the best we ever did was just shy of a .500 season.

Fortunately, in sports, I get to live through Christian now.

Christian’s varsity basketball team at Westgate Mennonite Collegiate just won the city AAA championship and will be competing in the provincials next weekend. Many of those kids won the city championship in AAA volleyball this year as well. They are an excellent group of boys in many ways, and he will miss playing with many of them when they graduate and he becomes a senior. Next year’s group is very promising as well, and C will step into a larger role which will be exciting. Already looking forward to that!

Christian gave up hockey this year to become involved in high school sports, and I must admit I miss it at times. The last 3 years his AA team has made it to the city finals, and won twice. In the summers in between he focused on baseball, playing on two city/provincial champion AAA baseball teams. He has also played in 2 national championships where he has rec’d several game star and MVP honors.

He plays men’s league soccer in his spare time, plays guitar and drums equally well, and french horn in the high school concert band. He sings. He bugs me to take him snowboarding in the mountains, and tonight (on the way home from soccer) said bicycle ice cross would be fun to try.

The fact is, I prayed for a son like him, and a daughter like Olivia (much more more on her another time). As they say, be careful what you wish for…

I love you son!
